Italian jazz pianist Enrico Morsillo shares Glimpse of Glee in the latest release from Odradek Jazz. Morsillo’s original music offers a personal insight into his creative world, in which he strives to shed the formality of convention in order to express moments of spontaneous joy and connection. This philosophy has been hard-won: years of perfectionism came to an end during Morsillo’s time spent living in Sicily, where he was reminded that polish and precision are no match for authentic and equal communication; an ethos that pervades the tracks on this album. As Morsillo explains in the album booklet: “I am very attached to this land, to its fragrances, its colours, the emotions that run through me every day and resonate: it has taught me to renounce, to take off the powder and lapels, not to treat a subject with the imperium of culture, to be uncertain”. In embracing risk, letting go and being true to himself, Morsillo has found his musical voice deepening and maturing into something more immediate and colourful, sure to resonate with listeners everywhere.
