Born in Tokyo in 1969, composer and conductor Sugiyama has been based in Milan since 1995. He studied composition with Franco Donatoni, Akira Miyoshi and Sandro Gorli, and conducting with Emilio Pomarico and Morihiro Okabe. He was responsible for organising the Yūji Takahashi portrait concerts of 2018–21.
