The Wiener Concert-Verein (WCV) is an internationally renowned chamber orchestra that has its roots in the Viennese musical tradition. Bearing the original historic name of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Wiener Concert-Verein was founded in 1987 by young members of this world-famous orchestra. The orchestra members are some of Vienna’s best and most highly motivated musicians, dedicated to building bridges between classical music in the traditional sense and contemporary music. WCV sees itself as an ambassador and mediator between diff erent musical horizons which are not opposites but enrich each other, continuing and revitalizing the tradition of Viennese classical music at the highest level of musicianship. One of the WCV’s most cherished responsibilities is commissioning works by Austrian and international composers, such as H.K. Gruber, Richard Dünser and Johanna Doderer.
