Ricardo de la Torre is a pianist and a native of Mexico City. He first heard the music of Miguel del Aguila as a young student there, and his interest later grew into a close artistic collaboration and friendship with the composer. With Lark Powers, his partner in music and in life, he forms Duo Powers-de la Torre, which commissions and premieres works by composers from across the Americas, including Juan Pablo Contreras, Leonardo Coral, Moisès Bertran and del Aguila. The duo has been heard live on Seattle’s Classical KING and Mexico City’s Opus 94.
Together with Lark Powers, he teaches at Pacific Lutheran University and in the University of Puget Sound’s Community Music Program; on Blue Samba he performs the solo piece Music in a Bottle and is the author of the album’s booklet notes.
