For 20 years I have been involved with the promotion of works by Greek composers. Several have dedicated works to me, which I had the honour to present in world-premiere performances. I was born in Greece and I live in Thessaloniki. For as long as I can remember, music has been the most suitable environment in which to express myself; the centre of my existence. I have been lucky to know people who have stimulated me to become a better person, and a better musician as well. I fondly remember Roberto Szidon, Nikos Astrinides, Lazar Berman, Julia and Constantin Ganevi, among many others. All of them left a mark on my life in a way that nobody else could. I am always fascinated by new places and people, and travelling is a good excuse to start new projects in new places. I regularly give recitals and participate in chamber music concerts and summer festivals of contemporary music. Chamber music gives me the chance to know great musicians and people whom I’d never dreamed of meeting, and has provided me with invaluable experiences and the sense of a family environment. I have particularly enjoyed playing in Italy, Serbia, Turkey, Poland and the UK. In 2014, I accepted an invitation to perform in Italy. I was asked to present modern works by Greek composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Primary considerations in the selection of the repertoire were: ease of listening, lack of the extreme experimental characteristics typical of modernist trends, and a writing style highlighting the historical developments leading to Post-Modernism. To my surprise and joy, I realized that the audience was particularly interested in 21st-century music. This determined my decision to record the project, choosing works by living Greek composers who shape our contemporary musical reality.
