Pianist Daniel Pereira holds a Doctor in Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland, a Master of Music from the University of Hartford and an Artist Diploma from the State University of New York at Purchase, and has participated in piano festivals and master classes in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Brazil and the United States.
As an author, Pereira published the book “We Can’t Always Play Waltzes: Conversations with Bert Lucarelli”, for Carl Fischer New York, “The Teachings of Alfred Cortot for Clavier Magazine, and is co-editor of “Notas de Compositor” for the State University of Minas Gerais. The International Piano Archives at Maryland, hosted at the University of Maryland, publishes on a monthly basis his massive research “Piano Traditions through their Genealogy Trees “since January 2021, as well as Melómano Digital in Spain. The International Piano magazine featured the article “Rooted in tradition” in its issue March 2022 about the project. Pereira has conducted extensive research on pianists and schools of piano playing at the one-of-a-kind International Piano Archives at Maryland (IPAM).
He is a member of the Trío Preseli, along with soprano María Hinojosa and horn player Simon Lewis, which is working on a recording of the music of Welsh composer Anthony Randall and world-premiered Nao de Sangue by Spanish composer Fernando Buide. Pereira is Head of the Piano Department and Professor of Piano at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Vigo (Spain).
