Praised as “a truly gifted cellist, born for this instrument” (Rohan de Saram), Gianluca Pirisi is active both in orchestral and chamber music. He has played as a solo and chamber musician in some of the principal Italian music festivals (Unione Musicale Torino, Amici della Musica di Palermo, Amici della Musica di Perugia, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Filarmonica di Messina) and elsewhere (Amsterdam Cello Biennale, Cultural Institute of Paris, Kusatsu Music Festival, Werk 7 München, Flanders Festival Ghent, Hannover Staatsoper Festival, Chopin Festival Warsaw). Between 2016 and 2018 he shared the stage with Giovanni Sollima in a series of cello duo and orchestra concerts in Italy. His interest in historical performance got him noticed by Fabio Biondi, Konzertmeister of Europa Galante, and since 2022 he has been regularly invited to play with various early music ensembles around Europe. He’s also a founding member of Ensemble Kinari, a chamber music ensemble focused on the research and rebirth of unfairly forgotten music. He graduated at 17 under the guidance of Francesco Pepicelli and continued his studies with Rocco Filippini, Umberto Clerici, Enrico Bronzi, Roham de Saram and Enrico Dindo. He’s currently a chamber music professor in Rimini’s Conservatory of Music. Gianluca Pirisi plays a Cello by G.C.Gigli, 1761.
