The Austrian baritone Christoph Filler studied singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Peter Edelmann, completing his master’s degree “Lied and Oratorio” with Florian Boesch. He was a member of the International Opera Studio of the Zürich Opera House and then a permanent ensemble member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. Guest engagements have led him to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Daegu Opera House, the Staatstheater Darmstadt, the Chemnitz Theatre, the Innsbruck Landestheater and the St. Gallen Theatre. In addition, Christoph Filler also made his house debut at the MusikTheater an der Wien in Vicente Martín y Soler’s L’arbore di Diana. As a concert singer, he has appeared as soloist in Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passion, Haydn’s The Creation and The Seasons, Mozart’s Requiem, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana, among others, working with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Theodor Guschlbauer, Stefan Gottfried and Martin Haselböck. Christoph Filler is also a versatile Lied singer, especially of works by Franz Schubert and Gustav Mahler, whose song cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen he performed at the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Academy.
