François-Frédéric Guy is highly regarded as a specialist in the German Romantic repertoire and in particular Beethoven, having recorded the 32 sonatas, the complete music for cello with Xavier Phillips and for violin with Tedi Papavrami, the five concertos with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Philippe Jordan (2008), and with Sinfonia Varsovia which he conducted on the keyboard (2019).
He enjoys an international career alongside the greatest conductors (Marc Albrecht, Fabien Gabel, Bernard Haitink, Daniel Harding, Philippe Jordan, Kent Nagano, Michał Nesterowicz, Kazushi Ono, Josep Pons, Pascal Rophé, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Antoni Wit, Jaap van Zweden…) with prestigious orchestras such as the Wiener Symphoniker, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia in London.
Passionate about the music of his time, he performs in the most important festivals, playing the likes of Georges Benjamin, Hugues Dufourt, Bruno Mantovani, Marc Monnet, Christian Lauba, Tristan Murail and Kaija Saariaho. He is the dedicatee of several works including Other Pages for solo piano and Écoumène for piano and orchestra by Aurélien Dumont, Erlkönig and Reine Spannung pour piano solo by Hugues Dufourt, En pièces (Book 1) by Marc Monnet, Cailloux dans l’eau by Tristan Murail and his Second Piano Concerto, which he will perform in 2021 in Tokyo and in 2022 in Paris and Hamburg.
Since 2012, he has regularly directed from the piano various ensembles including the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, with which he triumphed at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées to open the Beethovenian festivities on 18 January 2020, offering the five Beethoven concertos in one evening to a Parisian audience that gave him a standing ovation.
